May is National Foster Care Month, a great time to share our progress with you. Andrea and I started Power to Soar Foundation with a vision to motivate the motivated foster youth. Power to Soar Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in August 2015, is dedicated to empower orphan and foster youth by providing educational grants to help them complete their high school and college education successfully. This includes funding to support boarding, lodging, and other needs, so students can focus on education for a successful and productive life.
Last year, we established a collaboration with Seawolf Scholars at Sonoma State University. We successfully provided four education grants and funds for critical needs to well deserving foster youth. It is great to see one of Power to Soar Foundation’s grant winners graduating this year with a Bachelor’s degree. We wish her the best of luck in fulfilling her dreams and aspirations.
We also enjoyed seeing another of our scholars on stage in The Magic Flute, sharing the experience with our supporters.
Based on our early success, we embarked on a successful fund raising campaign, last fall. We were touched and humbled by the generous donations and support we received towards our mission. Based on your generosity, we doubled the number of grants for Seawolf Scholars and established a new collaboration with Guardian Scholars at Sacramento State University. Thank you for your support!
All this would not have been possible without the tireless work of our Board Members Nadine Sutro, Jonathan Newman and Ramesh Srivastava and our Executive Director, Andrea Srivastava. I also, would like to welcome two new Board members, Todd Stevnot and Anne Sandbach. I truly appreciate their volunteerism to support Power to Soar Foundation’s mission and vision.
There are nearly 400,000 US children and youth in foster care. Only 50% of the youth graduate from High School and of those only 20% attend College. Of the foster youth that attend college only 2-9% attain Bachelor’s degrees. Please join us! Make a donation, today, to continue this important work. Our mission is to change these numbers so that foster youth enjoy a bright and productive future.
